Preview: Bowling Green almost always features one of the toughest schedules in the state of Kentucky — and the 2020 season will be no different. The Purples open the year with St. Xavier right off the bat and will also square off with Pleasure Ridge Park, Corbin, McCracken County, Trinity (Louisville), Hopkinsville and district rival South Warren, making for a extremely challenging slate. Third-year head coach Mark Spader graduated standout cornerback Vito Tisdale, safety — and son — Evan Spader and wide receiver Scotty Brown, but returns much experience — including senior quarterback Conner Cooper, running back Javeius “Javy” Bunton and tight end Jordan Dingle, among many others, that will try and lead the Purples to their first Class 5A state championship since 2016.

Coach’s Thoughts:

  • “Through our winter program and then to early spring workouts, our seniors showed tremendous leadership in leading us into the 2020 season,” Bowling Green coach Mark Spader said. “Offensively, returning skill players Jordan Dingle, Javy Bunton, Conner Cooper and Dez Wilson — along with returning linemen Jayran France, Ken-Yae Cofer and Christian Johnson — should result in an explosive attack. Rece Jones, Bridger Knee and Dylan Echols will help lead a group of new defensive players that has underclassmen ready to take their next step.”
  • “Our revised schedule still rounds out as one of the toughest in the state,” Spader said. “Road trips to Pleasure Ridge Park, St. Xavier and Trinity — along with home games against Corbin, McCracken County and Hopkinsville — should really challenge us in preparation for our district games against South Warren, Greenwood and Christian County. We always look forward to our district games because they are not only meaningful to our season, but we have also developed healthy rivalries with those teams over the years.”
