Warren Central didn’t have to go far to find its next head girls’ basketball coach.
Anthony Hickey, Sr., a veteran coach who’s spent the past three seasons on the boys’ basketball staff, has been named the Lady Dragons’ head coach, the school announced Wednesday in a press conference video.
Hickey spent 13 years at Christian County, serving as an assistant coach for the boys’ program from 2003-2007 before becoming the head coach of the girls’ program in 2007 and holding that title until 2016.
In his nine years at the helm of the Lady Colonels, Hickey won three district championships and advanced to two Region 2 tournament championships. His squad advanced to the regional tournament in eight of nine seasons, only missing out once.
After leaving Christian County, Hickey served as an assistant coach for the Bowling Green girls’ team for the 2016-17 season before making the move to Warren Central to serve on Coach William Unseld’s staff the past three seasons.
In addition to Hickey’s coaching duties at WCHS, he also serves as the school’s liason and works closely with students in regards to grades and attendance on a daily basis.
Hickey replaces Joe Hood, who resigned April 3 after serving as the Lady Dragons’ head coach from 2013-2020.
