Lucy Patterson scored 20 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead the Warren East girls’ basketball team to a 58-34 win over Warren Central on Thursday night at Warren East High School.
Patterson and the Lady Raiders (8-3 overall, 1-1 District 14) – winners of three straight – were in control from start to finish and never allowed Warren Central to get into a consistent rhythm.
While Patterson led the way for the Lady Raiders, Hailey Hymer finished with 8 points and Olivia Price tallied 7.
Krisheana Johnson paced the Lady Dragons (5-10, 0-1) with 13 points.
Warren East held an early 6-2 lead at the 5:48 mark of the first quarter before Hymer knocked down a 3-pointer to make it a 9-2 advantage for the Lady Raiders. Kaylee Miller’s bucket put East up 13-4 at the 2:05 mark, and it ultimately led 14-6 after one.
The Lady Raiders controlled the second quarter, opening it with a 11-0 run to build a 25-6 lead with 2:25 remaining in the half. Johnson capped the surge with a score inside, but Patterson closed the period with a 6-0 run of her own to put Warren East up 31-8 at the break.
Johnson’s basket brought Warren Central within 37-13 at the 4:03 mark of the third, but Kelsey Sparks answered with a triple for Warren East. Johnson later scored five straight points to cut the Lady Dragons’ deficit to 42-20, but Jordan Fulkerson’s basket put the Lady Raiders up 44-20 entering the fourth.
Caroline Forrester’s steal off an inbounds pass and a layup gave Warren East a 50-24 lead with 5:11 remaining – and the Lady Raiders were able to remain in control from there.
The two sides will meet again at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Kentucky 2A Tournament Section 2 championship at Franklin-Simpson.
