Warren Central came ready to play yet again.
Just three days after recording a dominant 84-62, Region 4 win over Allen County-Scottsville, the Dragons continued to fire on all cylinders and earned a lopsided 83-39 victory over District 14 opponent Warren East on Thursday night at Warren East High School.
The Dragons (9-4 overall, 1-0 District 14) led 28-12 after the opening quarter and outscored Warren East 26-8 in the second to build a commanding 54-20 advantage at halftime. Leading by that amount, Warren Central was able to cruise through the second half and record a second straight win.
Dre Boyd led the way for the Dragons with a game-high 23 points – all of those coming in the first half alone – while Tresor Nishimwe finished with 13 points and Jaiden Lawrence tallied 9.
Jordan Jones paced the Raiders (2-10, 0-2) with 10 points.
The two sides exchanged baskets early as the scoreboard was even at 8-8 at the 4:15 mark of the first quarter, but Warren Central caught fire and put together an 11-0 run to take a 19-8 lead at the 2:23 mark. The Dragons then ended the period with a 9-0 surge to be up 28-12 after one.
A 12-0 run to open the second quarter – highlighted by a Tayton Smith 3-pointer and an and-one from Kamden Lawrence – put Central up 40-13 with 4:57 remaining in the half, and it soon used another 9-0 run to go up 49-15 before ultimately leading 54-20 at the break.
Leading by 34 to open the second half, the Dragons emptied their bench and cruised through the final 16 minutes en route to another big win.
Both teams return to action Saturday as Warren East plays Rockcastle County at 1:45 p.m. in the BSN Sports Kay Morris Classic at Russell County and Warren Central plays at Franklin-Simpson at 7:30 p.m. in the Kentucky 2A Tournament Section 2 championship.
