Barren County controlled most of the game but Bowling Green prevailed.
In a matchup between a pair of Region 4 clubs, the Trojans led after the opening quarter and at halftime, but the Purples played a much better second half to come away with a 47-44 win on their home court and record an eighth straight victory.
Isaiah Mason led the way for BGHS (11-3 overall) with 16 points, while Jaxson Banks finished with 12 points and Cobi Huddleston added 10.
Jacob Shaw scored 9 points for the Trojans (7-6).
Bowling Green started hot and jumped out to a 7-2 lead at the 3:32 mark of the first quarter, but Barren County roared back and put together a 12-0 run to build a 14-7 advantage after eight minutes of action.
Taye Poynter’s 3-pointer early into the second put the Trojans up 17-9, and a basket by Gavin Withrow at the 5:04 mark made it 21-11. The Purples found some life and closed the quarter with a 6-0 run – with all six points coming from the free-throw line – but still trailed 23-21 at the break.
The Trojans opened the third quarter with five quick points – highlighted by a Shaw triple – to take a 28-21 lead and force a Bowling Green timeout. Then, out of the timeout, Will Bandy knocked down a pair of free throws to push the run to 7-0 and put Barren County up 30-21 at the 5:55 mark.
Bowling Green responded and used a 9-0 run to get within 32-30 with 3:03 left in the period, and Banks later beat the buzzer with a layup to send the Purples into the fourth leading 34-33.
Mason’s bucket gave Bowling Green a 38-35 lead with 5:51 remaining, and Banks scored inside with 4:18 left to make it 42-38 in the Purples’ favor. Barren County scored to get within 44-42 with just under two minutes left, but the Purples were able to hold off the Trojans and come out on top.
Bowling Green returns to action Friday at home vs. Greenwood at 7:30 p.m., while Barren County hits the floor again next Tuesday at Warren East in a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
