Believe it or not, the final week of the Kentucky high school football regular season has arrived. Let’s take a look at a few of the top games to see around the Bowling Green area and check out the complete schedule for Friday night.
Game of the Week: Logan County (8-1) at South Warren (8-1), 7 p.m. Friday, Spartan Stadium
South Warren will host Logan County on Friday night in a highly anticipated matchup at Spartan Stadium.
The Spartans, who have won two straight after shutting out Christian County 36-0 last week, and Cougars – who defeated Calloway County 46-7 last Friday for their second straight win – both enter the contest at 8-1 overall.
South Warren quarterback Mason Willingham threw two touchdown passes and ran for another against Christian County, while running back Luke Burton had a pair of TD runs. Wide receivers Chidi Afam and Jantzen Dunn reeled in Willingham’s TD passes.
Quarterback Tyler Ezell and wide receiver Anthony Woodard connected for five TD passes in Logan County’s win as Ezell went 13-for-31 for 190 yards and six TDs and Woodard reeled in six receptions for 152 yards and five TDs. Additionally, running back Gary Hardy rushed for 151 yards.
The Spartans lead the all-time series 3-1 dating back to the two sides’ first meeting in 2011 and have outscored the Cougars 138-0 in the past three matchups.
Trinity (Louisville) (7-2) at Bowling Green (6-2), 6:30 p.m. Friday, El Donaldson Stadium
Bowling Green will welcome Class 6A powerhouse Trinity (Louisville) into El Donaldson Stadium on Friday night for its regular-season finale.
The Purples are riding a three-game win streak after defeating Greenwood 39-0 last week. The Shamrocks won 44-0 over Eastern last Friday and have won back-to-back games. Quarterback Conner Cooper went 14-for-20 for 284 yards and three touchdowns in Bowling Green’s win, while Trinity QB Nathan McElroy finished 8-for-10 for 199 yards and four TDs in its victory.
It’ll mark the first meeting between the two sides since Sept. 24, 2010 – a 14-12 win for the Shamrocks in Bowling Green.
Franklin-Simpson (5-4) at Glasgow (8-1), 7 p.m. Friday, Hank Royse Stadium
Glasgow and Franklin-Simpson will meet for the 60thtime Friday night at Hank Royse Stadium.
The Scotties, winners of three straight, picked up a 21-14 road win at Casey County last week behind 64 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Jayden Weyrauch and 92 rushing yards and a TD from Hunter Scott. Leandre Stutzman scored four TDs – two receiving, one rushing and one on a kickoff return – in the Wildcats’ 48-21 win over Warren East last Friday.
Franklin-Simpson holds a 35-23-1 lead in the all-time series and has won five straight meetings over the Scotties.
