Make it three straight wins for Bowling Green.
The Purples — fresh off victories over South Warren and Christian County — remained hot Friday and picked up a 39-0 win over Greenwood at “The Swamp.”
Bowling Green (6-2 overall, 3-0, Class 5A, District 2), which improved to 29-0 all-time against Greenwood, led 12-0 after the opening quarter and 25-0 at halftime. The Purples remained on top throughout the second half and never allowed the Gators (5-4, 1-2) to get into it.
Quarterback Conner Cooper threw three touchdown passes for the Purples, while Javeius Bunton (2) JaVyan Collins, Jordan Dingle, Scotty Brown and Elvin FoFonah each found the end zone at least once.
Bowling Green controlled the opening half.
After turning it over on downs on their first drive, the Purples bounced back with a successful second series. Covering 73 yards with seven plays, Collins capped the drive with a four-yard touchdown run. Dalton Major’s PAT was no good, but BG still led 6-0 at the 3:03 mark of the first quarter.
The Purples doubled their advantage just before the end of the period with a 68-yard TD pass from Cooper to Dingle. The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, but Bowling Green was up 12-0 entering the second.
Bunton’s first score of the night increased the Purples’ lead late in the quarter. Scoring on a 25-yard TD run, Bunton — and Major’s made PAT — helped make it 19-0 at the 3:08 mark.
Just before the horn blew for halftime, Cooper connected with Brown for a 34-yard TD. Major’s kick was no good, but Bowling Green took a 25-0 lead into the locker room.
The Purples remained on top throughout the second half.
Not even three minutes into the third quarter, Cooper threw his third TD of the contest — this one an 17-yarder — to FoFonah and made it 32-0 at the 9:37 mark.
Bunton’s second score — a 17-yard run — pushed the Purples’ advantage to 39-0 right before the end of the period and sealed it.
Bowling Green looks to remain hot next Friday as it hosts Louisville Trinity at 6:30 p.m. for its regular-season finale. Greenwood closes out its regular season on the road at John Hardin with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
