Taking a look at the Week 9 area football schedule

It’s Week 9 of the Kentucky high school football season. Let’s take a look at a few of the top games to see around the Bowling Green area and check out the complete schedule for Friday night.

Game of the Week: South Warren (6-1) at Greenwood (5-2), 7 p.m. Friday, “The Swamp”

South Warren and Greenwood both return to action Friday night after being off last week for fall break.

The Spartans venture into “The Swamp” after losing 14-3 to crosstown rival Bowling Green on Oct. 4, a defeat that snapped South’s state-leading 21-game win streak dating back to 2017. The Gators defeated Christian County 20-14 their last time out to bounce back after dropping two straight.

South Warren running back Kobe Martin has rushed for 511 yards and six touchdowns on 101 carries, while wide receivers Avrin Bell, Tomi Mustapha, Jantzen Dunn and Jason Putman have each recorded three receiving TDs. Quarterback Mason Willingham is the Spartans’ starter with Caden Veltkamp sidelined with an injury.

Greenwood running back Reed Slone has ran for 743 yards and eight TDs, while catching 11 passes for 218 yards and four more scores. Fellow back David Odom has 601 yards and five TDs, and quarterback John Morrison has thrown for 499 yards and four scores.

South Warren won last season’s meeting 55-7 over Greenwood and leads the all-time series 5-1.

Allen County-Scottsville (1-6) at Warren East (4-3), 7 p.m. Friday, Jim Ross Field

Warren East hosts Allen County-Scottsville Friday night at Jim Ross Field riding a three-game win streak.

The Raiders – who defeated Russell County, Edmonson County and Warren Central before having last week off for fall break – welcome in the Patriots looking to remain hot. ACS has dropped two straight, most recently a 41-13 setback at Danville on Oct. 4.

Quarterback Nolan Ford has been the Raiders’ leader through seven games, passing for 892 yards and nine TDs to go along with 601 yards and 10 more TDs rushing. Alongside Ford, running backs KJ Alexander and Damontra Pillow have each scored five TDs, and wide receiver EJ Smith has four TDs with 215 yards.

Patriots’ quarterback Trace McIntrye has ran for 225 yards and five TDs and passed for 672 and a score, while running back Landon Witcher has recorded 380 yards and five TDs on the ground. Jax Cooper has the lone receiving TD for ACS and 389 yards.

Warren East won last season’s meeting 23-20 in Scottsville.

Taylor County (6-1) at Glasgow (6-1), 7 p.m. Friday, Hank Royse Stadium

Glasgow welcomes Taylor County into Hank Royse Stadium Friday night for a big Class 3A, District 2 matchup.

The Scotties – who have suffered just one loss in 2019 and defeated Adair County 50-22 their last time out – are averaging 44 points per game and only allowing 11. The Cardinals, similar to Glasgow, have also lost just once this season and are riding a two-game win streak after recording wins over Casey County and Hart County.

Glasgow quarterback Tanner Abernathy has passed for 1,352 yards and 15 touchdowns with just two interceptions, while running back Nick Mitchell has rushed for 732 yards and 16 TDs. Wide receiver Hunter Scott has 524 yards and 12 scores on 22 receptions.
